FAQs

Take a deeper look into Venuemate.

What is Venumemate?

Venuemate is a hosted and managed platform for venue websites.

What is WordPress?

WordPress started as a blogging platform back in 2003. WordPress (WP) has now developed into a highly regarded content management system (CMS). WordPress is used by millions of organisations around the world to power their websites.

What makes WordPress such a great way to power my website?

WordPress is used to power millions of blogs and company websites around the world. This has led to a huge community of developers who create plugins designed to add more functionality to the core product. Many Web Design companies and individual Web Designers are familiar with the WordPress platform allowing them to develop, and maintain your site quickly and cheaply.

What is a Content Management System (CMS)

A Content Management System enables people with minimal technical knowledge to upload, share or publish content to their website.

What is a WordPress theme?

A theme is a WordPress term for a template.

Themes can be used to present your website's content in different layouts and styles. A theme can be though of as a the body-work and chasis which sits on top of the WordPress engine.

We use the word template for simplicity but our templates are essentially WordPress themes.

What is the 'Highgate' Template?

Highgate is the name of our template. It's been custom designed to meet the needs of venue websites. We plan to create other templates in the future. Here are some of Highgate's main features:

  • Design and layout tailored to the needs of venues
  • Integrated Content Management System powered by WordPress. Add and update events, pages, and adverts.
  • Easy event sharing, allowing site visitors to share events to their social networks
  • Custom menus allow you to add remove or re-order your main menu by dragging and dropping
  • One-to-one email support
  • On-going theme development
If I'm using a template won't my site look the same as everyone elses?

Your site will have the same layout as other sites that use the same template. Venue websites should have a similar 'information architiecture' as they are trying to achieve the same goals. Having a template allows us to keep complexity down and hence costs down.

Think of it like an affordable off-the peg suit, which you accessorize with a tie, cufflinks, pocket handkerchief, versus a costly bespoke suit. As part of the set-up process we add your logo and any colour scheme and custom fonts if you use them so your site looks consistent with your brand.

Can I customise it with my own logo colour and fonts?

When we set up your trial website our design team will add your logo colours and fonts. It's not commercially feasible to alter the layout or the core information architecture of our templates - it is a template after all. We do however plan to release new templates if the platform develops.

How much does the Venuemate cost?

Venuemate costs £30 per month.

Who buys Venuemate?

Venuemate is used by Venue Managers who want a simple pre-built solution for their website.

What's so great about WordPress' widgets and plugins architecture?

WordPress' architecture allows extra functionality to be added or removed easily in the form of plugins and widgets.

For example, if you have a mailing list and you use a service such as Mailchimp to manage your list, you can install the Mailchimp plugin designed specifically for WordPress by the clever people at Mailchimp. No need to talk to your web designer or IT support provider to add this to your site. The alternative would require time-consuming and costly bespoke programming. Why re-invent the wheel when you can use Mailchimp's wheels which are already designed to work with WordPress. There is a plugin to do just about anything for the WordPress platform.

So why Venuemate better than hiring a Web Designer or web design company to design my website?

Designing and building a website from scratch is like designing and making a bespoke suit from scratch - expensive and time-consuming. By specialising in our niche, which is building websites for venues, we can reduce costs, design better solutions, and deliver sites faster.

In what way is the Venuemate theme tailored to the particular goals of venues?

Using our expertise in venue marketing and combining it with our expertise in web design, we've created a product that meets the key objectives of venue websites. Venuemate doesn't claim to do everything but it does do most things your venue website needs to do pretty well.

What level of support do you offer?

We currently offer one-to-one support via email in UK during business hours.

Will my site stay up-to-date with the latest technologies?

Our Developers are continually enhancing our template. These enhancements get tested and incorporated in future updates and releases.

SEO, what is that and why is that important to my venue?

SEO stands for search engine optimization. That's the ability of search engines such as Google to find your site and decide where your site is placed on the results page. The higher up the page the better, obviously. Venuemate is built using web-standards which helps increase your page rankings.

How does my mailing list work

The Stockwell theme has an area in the footer for a sign up form. Send us your MailChimp user ID code snippet and will hook it into the form.

Can I have stats?

Send us your Google Analytics code snippet and we can add it yo your site.

Who fixes my website if it breaks?

If it breaks, and it's a problem with our template, we'll fix it free of charge.
